child dedication

what is it?

Child Dedication is when you, as parents, commit yourselves to raise your kids God’s way, while the church commits itself to provide an environment that will help children become fully-devoted followers of Jesus. You are committing your children to their Heavenly Father, recognizing that they are truly a gift from God and declaring that their lives belong to Him! The biblical basis for dedicating a child is found in 1 Samuel 1:27-28.

what is the difference between infant baptism and child dedication?

Water Baptism is an outward expression of an inward change–it is a symbol and a celebration of salvation. We believe that when a person decides to be baptized, it is because they have made a personal decision to follow Jesus. Child Dedication is for children who do not yet understand how to have a personal relationship with Jesus.

do I need to be a member/partner to have my child dedicated?

That is not a requirement. However, since the church’s commitment to helping parents teach their kids about Jesus is part of Child Dedication, parents are encouraged to make sure they are attending Evangel as their home church.
