Jesus - Hope for the Weary
Jeremiah 31:35 (NIV)
25 "I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.”
Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Although Christmas break means a break from the day to day tasks such as going to class, doing homework, and maybe some time off of work it is easy to allow the chaos that is often associated with Christmas to get the best of us. We can often be overwhelmed by family obligations or the need to do last minute Christmas shopping, but we need to recognize this time off as a time to rest, which is a gift from Jesus.
Jesus doesn’t expect us to run ourselves to the point of exhaustion, even if the things that are filling out time are considered good. We live in a world that applauds business and creates a mindset that makes us feel guilty for saying “no” to different activities. However, we need to be able to quiet our busy lives and to simply be at rest with Jesus. He is the one that refreshes our souls, gives us life in abundance and gives us the strength and energy we need to live this life to the best that we can so that He might receive glory. During this break allow yourself time to rest and be refreshed. The Lord says in Jeremiah 31.25, “I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint." We cannot find satisfaction and refreshing in the business of the world, only at the feet of Jesus.
