Jesus - Hope for Identity
Jeremiah 29:11-14; 1 Peter 2: 9-11 (NIV)
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listento you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”
1 Peter 2
9 if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment. 10 This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the flesh and despise authority. Bold and arrogant, they are not afraid to heap abuse on celestial beings; 11 yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not heap abuse on such beings when bringing judgment on them from the Lord.
Wow! These verses are great to have memorized and tucked away to remind ourselves of the promises God has for us. When I read Jeremiah 29 I grabbed a highlighter and marked the words that impacted my heart. He has a plan for us to PROPSER! I know that you may have just thought, yeah but my life is going no where fast. Have you asked God the plans he has for you? Have you devoted time out of your day to spend time with him to hear him respond to what you ask? God wants you to know him and be known in his life. When you ask something of him, HE HEARS YOU! Are you seeking him with all your heart? Is there something you won’t let go and let God take over? I know that when I wanted to be in control of certain areas, like my job, I fall short because I can’t do it on my own.
When reading 1 Peter did you catch that we are chosen people, a royal priesthood! We need to share how He has called us out of the darkness and into the light. God chooses you and me every day to share about what He has done in our lives and what He is doing now. I don’t mean that you are going to be standing in front of a crowd preaching (I mean maybe it could happen), but just a conversation you have with a friend, co-worker, acquaintance where there will be a moment for you to share how God helped you be an overcomer. When I read these verses, I was reminded about when I went on a mission trip to California and all week we ministered to people, but it wasn’t until the very last day in the final few hours before we had to leave our last place of ministry when God had a plan for me to encounter a specific individual. He shared the situation he was in and I shared how I overcame the same situation, but it wasn’t until I let go and let God take control. God has a plan and purpose for you. Take time seek and hear what he has for you. You don’t want to miss out!
