Jesus - Hope for Fear
6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. 7 Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors to give them, and you must divide it among them as their inheritance. 8 The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.
Fear—it’s something we all encounter at different points in our lives. Yet, despite the fears that may arise, God is continually reminding us that we have been given all we need to overcome in Jesus Christ. No matter what we face, we can move forward with courage and confidence because we know the One who goes with us, and we know He is always faithful. When looking at my own limitations and imperfections, it makes sense for me to be afraid of a lot of things in life—I can be pretty good at messing up! However, when my focus shifts from my own shortcomings to Christ’s perfection and all-sufficiency, my fears and problems start to look a lot smaller. It’s so comforting to know that I don’t have to face the difficulties of life alone, but that Jesus sees me, cares for me, and helps me through them. I’ve realized that fear so often comes because of uncertainty—uncertainty about how things will turn out, and the anticipation of things going badly. While fear seeks to creep into our hearts with uncertainty, there are things we can always be certain of no matter our circumstances. God is certainly good. He is certainly faithful. He is certainly able. Because of these promises and more, we can certainly have courage and confidence as followers of Jesus.
