This is message 3 in our "Long Live Life" series at the Element. It's all about those who went before us and lived their lives apologetically for Christ. They stood strong in the face of the greatest trials and acknowledged that their lives tell a story louder than any words that could ever be spoken.

We all know that Jesus paid the price for our sins on a cross. He did this because He knew that He was the Savior. But do you know that you die on a cross, too? We all do. In fact, it's not that we die on a cross, it's which cross we choose to die on. It's realizing that the labels you live by will determine the cross you die on. The apostle Paul said it best when he said, "I am crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in and through me."
You see, there were 3 crosses that day that Jesus died for us, your choice is to decide which one you're going to choose.

There is one thing that God commands of us when we face trial, struggle, and persecution: STAND FIRM. We aren't called to fight the battles or even to win them, but to stand firm and watch Jesus get the victory. Stephen did just this. In the face of persecution and death, he chose to stand his ground for the cause of Christ, and as a result, was honored by seeing Jesus stand for him.

40 Roman soldiers chose to give up their lives so that they could go public with their faith in Jesus. As a result, they were sentenced to death by standing exposed on a frozen lake in a bitter snowstorm. Their only hope of survival was to renounce Christ and come off the ice. Because they chose to stand strong, their example was a catalyst for the conversion of the entire Roman empire to Christianity. Their story commands us to not come off of the ice and to stand strong in the face of trial.
