Is Anybody Listening?

“One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.”
-Luke 18:1 NLT

When I look back over my life, in spite of the ups and downs, I can honestly say that God has always been faithful…faithful at every turn.

This may sound like the words of a person that has never experienced serious heartache, never felt loss, never was anxious about a doctor’s report, never worried about what tomorrow might bring.  If you think that, you would be incorrect on all counts.

I recall times when I really needed an answer to prayer and felt as though God had abandoned me.  Those were very difficult and confusing times.  They were times filled with long nights of tossing, hours of tears and considerable pain.  My greatest confusion was why would an all loving, all powerful God not answer my prayer?

What do we do when we feel like God is not listening?  It won’t sound glamorous or super spiritual, but in times like that we just keep on praying, keep on doing the right things.

In addition to the scripture above that Jesus encourages us to continue to pray, there is another influence.  It is the realization that God is my father.  I loved my earthly father and I missed him when he was gone.  We use to talk, sometimes with no specific goal, no agenda, no huge need.  We just talked, and that was okay. What I did understand was that he loved me and cared for me and would do anything in his power to help me.  But he always used fatherly wisdom.

Our heavenly Father is just like that. You can trust in Him even when the answers do not come.
